Member Sponsored Event: Tour of the Baltimore Food Hub
The Baltimore Food Hub is designed to plant a new economic engine in East Baltimore, creating a center for commercial and community activity. By co-locating food-related enterprises, the project will provide accessible, gainful employment and training. A grocery will increase access to fresh produce and staples in a food desert. At the same time, restoration of a long-vacant, century old city water pumping station at a strategic location on the Amtrak rail line will establish a new gateway to Baltimore City and communities “north of the tracks.”
American Communities Trust, the project’s developer, will provide a tour of the 3.5-acre site, highlighting progress to date and plans to restore the site’s five historic structures during the second phase of the project in 2018.
The one-hour tour will begin at 10 a.m. at the entrance to the Baltimore Food Hub (1414 N. Wolfe Street). Throughout the tour, the group will learn about tenants and programming, projected community impacts, current project funding and funding opportunities, and project timeline.
This is an active construction site, and members are asked to wear flat, close-toed shoes.
This program is for members of the Maryland Philanthropy Network and invited guests only.
