Protecting Creation: How Faith Communities Mobilize for the Environment
People and communities of faith contribute to environmental causes, both by stewardship of their own properties and by advocating for environmental protections as a tenet of their faith. Pope Francis' encyclical on climate change has raised awareness of the role of faith leaders in calling for a range of environmental reforms. Three Maryland organizations that support activism in faith communities will share their work with us:
- Jodi Rose of the Interfaith Partners for the Chesapeake;
- Joelle Novey of Interfaith Power and Light; and
- Rev. John Deckenback with the Ecumenical Leadership Group of the Central Maryland Ecumenical Council.
How are the roles of faith communities and leaders different from other forms of environmental activism? We will delve into this question with our three speakers, while enjoying some Christian and Jewish holiday treats.
This program is for Maryland Philanthropy Network members only. Lunch will be served.
