Danista E. Hunte Named President and CEO of Maryland Philanthropy Network

The Board of Directors of Maryland Philanthropy Network is pleased to announce the appointment of Danista E. Hunte as its next President and CEO, effective October 11, 2023. Danista brings with her a wealth of experience spanning over three decades in the philanthropic and non-profit sector. She most recently served as the Executive Director of Child First Authority in Baltimore and prior to that was Vice President of Community Investment for the Baltimore Community Foundation. READ MORE

 The Women’s Giving Circle of Howard County had a wonderful night celebrating women, community, and Black Philanthropy Month on August 1 at the Women's Giving Circle of Howard County's Black Philanthropy Month Happy Hour at The 3rd. The WGC is proud to continue support for Black Philanthropy Month, which is observed every August. Baltimore Youth Initiative Issues Grants to 10 Organizations

Baltimore’s Promise, in part­ner­ship with the Annie E. Casey Foun­da­tion and the Har­ry and Jeanette Wein­berg Foun­da­tion, recent­ly announced a pack­age of 10 grants total­ing rough­ly $525,000 through its Youth Grant­mak­ers Ini­tia­tive. The effort, which fea­tured a group of 15 Bal­ti­more-area youth and young adults between the ages of 16 and 25 in promi­nent design and deci­sion-mak­ing roles, grant­ed funds to 10 local orga­ni­za­tions. CLLCTIVLY And Maryland Nonprofits Build Resiliency Of Youth Service Providers

The Baltimore Children and Youth Fund (BCYF) awarded CLLCTIVLY and Maryland Nonprofits $150,000 to pilot the CONNECT program. Baltimore Workforce Funders Collaborative Signs onto National Good Jobs Statement

The Baltimore Workforce Funders Collaborative recently signed onto a national statement on good jobs. The broadly shared, widely endorsed definition of what constitutes a good job was released by the Good Jobs Champions Group, convened by the Families and Workers Fund and the Aspen Institute Economic Opportunities Program, in October 2022. Signed by over 100 leaders from business, labor, policy, philanthropy, academia, and workforce development it represents a historic step forward toward a future in which all work is valued; no one working full-time lives in or near poverty; companies and workers thrive alongside each other; and diverse talent is never overlooked. Like Learning A Language: Bringing the Voices Behind Baltimore’s Permitting and Grantmaking Systems into Conversation

The Morehead-Cain Scholarship at UNC at Chapel Hill has a Civic Collaboration Summer for rising sophomores, and five scholars were assigned to work with Maryland Philanthropy Network and the Middendorf Foundation. This study looks to explore both the permit and grant processes from the perspectives of nonprofit organizations, foundations, and the Baltimore City Government. By interviewing various stakeholders, the scholars gained insight and understood just how complex these processes were. All sides provided their experiences, which led the scholars to develop key takeaways and recommendations to create a more efficient system. READ MORE
