Blaustein Philanthropic Group Hires New Executive Director

Blaustein Philanthropic Group Hires New Executive Director

For Immediate Release

On behalf of the six foundations in the Baltimore-based Blaustein Philanthropic Group (BPG), we are pleased to announce that Regan E. Ralph has been hired as the next Executive Director, effective July 1, 2024.  Regan was selected following an extensive, ten-month search and interview process, conducted with the skilled guidance of Spencer Stuart, a leadership advisory services firm.

“Regan brings a wealth of experience and skill, as well as warmth, insight and good humor to the role,” said Michael Hirschhorn, President of the Jacob and Hilda Blaustein Foundation and chair of the search committee. “She impressed the committee with her broad knowledge, fair-mindedness, and excitement about engaging with the wide range of grantmaking priorities, geographies, program strategies and family members across the six foundations.”

Previously, Regan served for twenty years (2002-2022) as the founding President and CEO of the Fund for Global Human Rights, an international philanthropic organization that invests in and supports more than 300 grassroots activists and groups in over 50 countries. Prior to the Fund, she played leadership roles in the fields of women's, health and reproductive rights at Human Rights Watch (1992-2001) and the National Women’s Law Center (2001-2002). Regan received a B.A. in government with a specialization in international relations from Harvard University; a J.D. from Yale Law School; and a Certificate in International Relations from the London School of Economics.

A bittersweet dimension of this announcement is that it is accompanied by the retirement of Betsy F. Ringel as BPG's Executive Director of 27 extraordinary years. Betsy originally joined the foundations in 1995 as their first program officer, became executive director in 1997, and worked with trustees to build the Blaustein Philanthropic Group into what it is today.

As Executive Director, Regan will provide professional leadership to the six family foundations that operate under the umbrella of the Blaustein Philanthropic Group, based in Baltimore, Maryland:

  • The Jacob and Hilda Blaustein Foundation
  • The Morton K. and Jane Blaustein Foundation
  • The Elizabeth B. and Arthur E. Roswell Foundation
  • The David and Barbara B. Hirschhorn Foundation
  • The Henry and Ruth Blaustein Rosenberg Foundation
  • The Dorothy L. and Henry A. Rosenberg, Jr. Foundation

“The foundations in the Blaustein Philanthropic Group are supporting vitally important work in creative, thoughtful ways,” said Ms. Ralph. “I'm honored and thrilled to be joining the experienced team and dedicated trustees at this critical moment in pursuing their vision for a better world.”
