Bloomberg Philanthropies pledges $4M for job training in Baltimore
Michael Bloomberg’s philanthropy group is giving nearly $4 million to Baltimore's Promise, a nonprofit that supports city youth from childhood to adulthood and into their careers. The grant comes with a wave of giving by Bloomberg Philanthropies totaling $25 million in nine cities and two states designed to offset setbacks in education and workforce development from the coronavirus pandemic, the company said in a statement Tuesday.
This funding will help Baltimore's Promise grow its Grads2Careers job training program, which connects recent high school graduates without college plans to workforce training programs. In particular, it focuses on career-track jobs in high-growth industries such as health care, information technology, construction, transportation and warehousing, biotechnology and hospitality.
