Adverse Childhood Experiences and a Trauma-Informed Grantmaking Lens

This program is designed for all Maryland Philanthropy Network members to gain awareness of how early Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) and trauma impacts the success/outcomes of the grants that local foundations provide, including the areas of workforce development, education, housing, behavioral health, health care, community development, and the arts. 

Speakers include:

• Patricia Cobb Richardson, MS, Director of Community Resilience with BHSB and Program Manager with YES (Youth Empowered Society)
• Jan Desper Peters, M.P.A., Executive Director, Black Mental Health Alliance
• Tara Doaty, Ph.D., Founder & Lead Consultant, Sage Wellness Group, LLC
• Nick Brooks, Workforce Development Coordinator, YES (Youth Empowered Society)
• Caitlin O'Brien, Thomas Scattergood Behavioral Health Foundation
• Suzanne O'Connor, United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey

Maryland Philanthropy Network members will:

• Have an increased knowledge of what Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are and the long-term consequences of these experiences;
• Have an increased understanding of the value of embedding trauma-informed practices into our communities/ non-profits, based on the experiences from local providers;
• Understand strategies for applying a Trauma-Informed lens to grantmaking and/or possible actions to take; and
• Discuss interest and topics for further learning.
