Tour of National Park Service Historic Preservation Training Center

Join members of the Baltimore Workforce Funders Collaborative on a visit to the National Park Service Historic Preservation Training Center in Frederick, MD to learn about opportunities to help entry level construction workers build careers in the maintenance and preservation of historic properties.

Preservation Maryland is working to expand access to the Historic Preservation Apprenticeship conducted by the National Park Service. The program is designed to prepare Apprentices for employment in the National Park Service (which has responsibility for many historic buildings including the White House, historic tribal sites, and so much more!) or for employment by local historic preservation contractors. For front-line construction workers or jobseekers interested in the trades, this apprenticeship can be an opportunity to move up along a career pathway to higher paying, skilled jobs.

At the site visit, Maryland Philanthropy Network members will have the opportunity to speak with instructors and apprentices representing both veterans and youth corps participants who will share thoughts on their training experience and career plans. We will gather at the Training Center’s workshop in downtown Frederick to talk about the program and how it works, meet members of the current apprentice teams.  Lunch will be about 10 minutes away at the Training Center’s headquarters building at 4801A Urbana Pike, Frederick, MD, 21704.

This site visit will be organized by Preservation Maryland with support from the Maryland Philanthropy Network Workforce Affinity group. Maryland Philanthropy Network will coordinate transportation/carpooling once registrations are received.

This program is for Maryland Philanthropy Network members and eligible grantmakers only. Lunch will be included in the day. Remote participation is not available.
