Introduction to Advancing Racial Equity in Grantmaking
Maryland Philanthropy Network is pleased to host our annual training for funders, Advancing Racial Equity in Grantmaking, in partnership with ABFE: A Philanthropic Partnership for Black Communities. This year we offer a highly interactive virtual equivalent of the typical on-site day-long racial equity training.
Participant Learning Objectives:
- Develop a shared understanding and language regarding structural racism, racial equity, diversity, and inclusion – terms used frequently (and sometimes, interchangeably) within the philanthropic sector.
- Have a greater understanding of Responsive Philanthropy in Black Communities (RPBC) framework and overview of three specific tools used to support racial equity in grantmaking.
- Learn of examples from peer organizations, be introduced to practical tools, and receive advice for addressing these issues within their grantmaking endeavors.
Our trainers will be Anthony Simmons and Edward Jones, ABFE: A Philanthropic Partnership for Black Communities.
We recognize this is a considerable time commitment and also ask participants to commit to attend the entire time. Breaks will be built into the session.
While not required, we recommend participants also register for Going Deeper on Equity – Addressing ABFE’s Call to Action being held on May 5th from 1:00 - 3:30 PM to delve deeper into this content and explore using one of ABFE’s racial equity tools.
This program is for Maryland Philanthropy Network members only. We encourage foundation trustees to attend.
