Conversation with Josh Sharfstein, MD, Johns Hopkins Vice Dean for Public Health Practice and Community Engagement

Maryland Philanthropy Network’s Health Funders Affinity Group is very pleased to invite Dr. Josh Sharfstein, Vice Dean for Public Health Practice and Community Engagement and Professor of the Practice in Health Policy and Management at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.  He is the author of The Public Health Crisis Survival Guide: Leadership and Management in Trying Times and co-author of The Opioid Epidemic: What Everyone Needs to Know. Dr. Sharfstein, a pediatrician, previously served as Secretary of the MD Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, as Principal Deputy Commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and as Commissioner of Health for Baltimore City. 

Dr. Sharfstein’s presentation will focus on: 

  • An update on HSCRC’s (Health Services Cost Review Commission) policy en route to the AHEAD (Advancing All-Payer Health Equity Approaches and Development) Model. 
  • How philanthropy and the HSCRC can coordinate to promote innovation. 
  • Updates on the status of the leadership and programs at the Baltimore City Health Department 

We’ll also discuss the Maryland Department of Health’s Population Health Trust.
