Fall 2024 Workforce Community Conversation Series on Transportation Barriers to Work: Driver’s Licenses, Cars, and Insurance

Fall 2024 Workforce Community Conversation Series on Transportation Barriers to Work: Driver’s Licenses, Cars, and Insurance

Monday, November 25, 2024, 12:00 - 1:30 PM

This fall, the Workforce Community Conversations group is focused on the lack of reliable transportation to work as one of the most vexing barriers for individuals seeking careers across the Baltimore region.

In this webinar for funders and workforce practitioners, we will dig into the many barriers for individuals who need a car to get and maintain a job. Commuting to work via public transportation is not a viable solution when your worksite changes regularly, is far from transit routes, when you work irregular hours or late shifts, or when you need the flexibility to get your child to and from daycare. But valid driver’s licenses, vehicle ownership, and auto insurance seem out of reach for many Baltimore residents. Our speakers will share information about these challenges as well as opportunities to test solutions and influence policies.

Speakers:
Marty Schwartz, Vehicles for Change
Brendan Hellweg, consultant to the Abell Foundation
Marceline White, Economic Action Maryland

This webinar is the last of a three-part learning series leading up to our December 5th Workforce Community Conversation event, where funders and workforce development practitioners will come together for a conversation about the transportation issue.
