Family Philanthropy Roundtable: Looking Upstream with Advocacy and Public Policy Making

Family Philanthropy Roundtable: Looking Upstream with Advocacy and Public Policy Making

Wednesday, March 23, 2011, 12:00 - 1:30 PM

By leveraging their grantmaking, local knowledge, and personal relationships, family foundations and fund holders are uniquely positioned to influence public policy. You can grow media attention for an issue, sponsor research used by public agencies and elected officials, support community organizing, convene leaders for collaboration, pilot demonstration projects, provide testimony, or advocate for new laws or regulations. These activities look upstream from funding direct services to affect the source of the problem.

Join fellow trustees for a peer conversation on public policy and grantmaking. It is easy to begin. Many families are already engaged in public policy making, sometimes without even thinking about it in those terms. We will highlight local examples and provide resources for further exploring what makes sense for your philanthropy, as you seek to maximize the effectiveness of your giving.

This program is for Maryland Philanthropy Network members only. Lunch will be served.

There is no fee to attend.  Please register online or call 410-727-1205 to rsvp.
