Reframing Aging: A Generation’s Work

Reframing Aging: A Generation’s Work

Tuesday, June 04, 2024, 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM

The Maryland Department of Aging (MDOA) announced a new strategic partnership with the National Center to Reframe Aging (NCRA) that aims to change the way society talks about aging, work to end implicit bias toward older people, and create more age-inclusive communities. The partnership was formed as part of Longevity Ready Maryland, a ten-year multisector plan to prepare Maryland for the challenges and maximize the benefits and opportunities of a rapidly aging society.

The Maryland Philanthropy Network’s Aging Innovations Group and MDOA invites you to a special presentation by the National Center to Reframe Aging to gain an understanding of the need to change the way our society communicates about aging and older adults. Expressed by Maryland Secretary of Aging Carmel Roques at our 2024 Aging Innovations Summit, “[we are working] to advance a more productive narrative about aging and the advantages of longer life spans, ultimately leading to the development of policies and programs that benefit all of us, young and old.”

Join this session to:

  • Receive guidance on how to advance an equitable and complete story about aging and promote evidence-based communication strategies to frame aging issues.
  • Learn more about the power of research-based framing strategies to increase the impact and efficacy of your communications and work.

Our speakers will be:

  • Betty Romero, Director, Longevity Ready Maryland, Multisector Planning and Age-Friendly Initiatives, Maryland Department of Aging
  • Patricia D’Antonio, Executive Director of Policy and Professional Affairs, National Center to Reframe Aging and Vice President, Gerontological Society of America
  • Hannah Albers, Project Director, National Center to Reframe Aging
