Transforming Schools and Neighborhoods – 21st Century Schools Update
Construction on 21st Century School Buildings is well underway with two completed schools, Fort Worthington Elementary/Middle School and Frederick Elementary School, and seven more currently in process. This collective effort between Baltimore City Public Schools, Maryland Stadium Authority, The City of Baltimore, and Maryland Interagency Committee on School Construction is producing innovative, high-quality, and sustainable learning environments for Baltimore's students and communities.
Recognizing this unprecedented opportunity, Maryland Philanthropy Network launched the School-Centered Neighborhood Investment Initiative in 2016. The Initiative is working collaboratively with local, state and nonprofit partners to build community capacity to spark investment into neighborhoods surrounding these new schools.
Year one learnings have led to intensive engagement with community based organizations and leaders in each of the Initiative’s focus areas. These partners are actively collaborating with the Maryland Philanthropy Network Funder Advisory Committee to design the focus and supports needed for phase two.
The Maryland Philanthropy Network team of consultant and member leaders will share an update on these efforts, future plans and opportunities as we enter 2018.
This program is for Maryland Philanthropy Network members only.
