Weathering the Storm: Resiliency Hubs for City Neighborhoods

When the power goes out, where do city residents go to refrigerate medications or charge a cell phone?  If school is closed for a heat wave, where do city children get their meals?  At the Door in East Baltimore, battery storage is being added to a solar array to assure a continuous electricity supply during power outages.  The communities of Sandtown-Winchester, Oliver-Broadway, and Westport-Mount Wynans are also slated for 'resiliency hubs' which will be sited where residents gather year 'round for recreation and services, but with the addition of emergency services such as Maryland Food Bank deliveries. As major weather events become more common, these hubs are where residents make personal connections and rely as much on each other as on government interventions in times of crisis.
