Everyone Counts: What You Need to Know About the 2020 Census

Our nation gets just one chance each decade to count our population – an increasingly diverse and growing population of around 330 million people. The data collected by the census determines, among other things, the number of seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives; where voting precincts are established; and to how to distribute billions in federal funds to local communities. This means, the 2020 census is a big deal for the nonprofit sector.

This session will bring together a variety of perspectives to discuss what the decennial census means for the nonprofit sector and our role in ensuring an accurate count. Learn how the census is conducted and understand the barriers and potential challenges to a fair and accurate count. Learn about how nonprofits have historically participated in census engagement, current plans for census implementation at the local and state levels and learn how to tap resources for encouraging census participation among your community, clients and people who use nonprofit sector services.
