Transforming Older Adults Lives through Better Transit
The Affinity Group on Aging invites you to a program focusing on the critical determinant of health; the lack of affordable, accessible transportation for older adults. Transit service is a key component in the complex solutions and partnerships needed to address barriers to accessing healthcare, jobs, services and amenities. Safe, efficient, and reliable transit options are an essential means to achieving personal and economic independence. As Baltimore City residents age, they often lose their capacity to drive which negatively impacts their independence and quality of life contributing to ill health due to social isolation and loneliness.
Our presenters Holly Arnold, Deputy Administrator, MTA; Councilman Ryan Dorsey, 3rd District and Chair of Baltimore City Council’s Transit Committee, and Robin Budish, Executive Director, Baltimore Transit Campaign; will discuss:
- How MDOT MTA is collaboratively working to address barriers to access;
- Baltimore City’s vision to improve its transportation system to meet the needs of all its residents to achieve an economically thriving, equitable, and environmentally-sustainable city;
- Bring awareness of the shortcomings of Baltimore’s existing public transit systems particularly for older adults.
This program is for Maryland Philanthropy Network members and invited guests.
This program was originally scheduled for March 20, 2020.
