Student Experiences in Baltimore Elementary School Classrooms

Much of the funding that we do as grantmakers is based on the knowledge and expertise of the adults who educate our children, yet little is known about what students experience on a day-to-day basis. The Baltimore Education Research Consortium (BERC) recently completed a two-year study involving observations of 23 Baltimore City second and third grade classrooms. Please join us on March 10th for a discussion of their findings, which paint a picture of the classroom experiences of Baltimore students. In particular, we will examine findings related to emotional support, classroom organization, and instructional support and discuss the implications for instructional practice. Our speakers will include Dr. Faith Connolly, Executive Director of BERC; Christina Hall, Co-Director of the Urban Teacher Center; and Dr. Sonja Santelises, Chief Academic Officer of Baltimore City Schools.
