The Financial Impact of COVID on the Arts in Maryland
While we know that the arts and culture sector has been hard hit during the COVID pandemic, Maryland Citizens for the Arts has recently conducted research delineating the financial impact of the pandemic on the arts statewide.
Also, last month, the National Endowment for the Arts announced more than $52 million in funding for arts agencies and organizations, the first recommended awards of the American Rescue Plan (ARP). These funds are designed to support the arts sector as it recovers from the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. In recognition of the very challenging circumstances facing arts organizations, Congress has charged the Arts Endowment to allow grant recipients to use ARP funding to cover general operating costs. This change marks a significant shift in policy and demonstrates a recognition of the tremendous need in the sector.
All arts and culture funders are invited to hear Nicholas Cohen, Executive Director, Maryland Citizens for the Arts, share findings from their research and to join in a discussion about the implications of these findings as well shifts in funding and support for the arts throughout Maryland and in Baltimore specifically.
We’ll provide ample time for all participants to deepen collaboration by sharing information, current opportunities, lessons learned and queries about supporting the arts in Maryland.
This program is for Maryland Philanthropy Network members only.
