CANCELED | 2023 Budget and Tax Briefing – Federal and State Outlook
This event has been canceled. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Join Maryland Philanthropy Network for a discussion with local expert, Benjamin Orr, President and CEO of Maryland Center on Economic Policy, to learn about the federal and state budget landscape. Mr. Orr will share federal budget and tax policy implications for Maryland along with an update on Maryland’s state budget and other key policy topics from the 2023 Legislation Session. Mr. Orr will be joined by Henry Bogdan, veteran advocate and Public Policy Director for Maryland Nonprofits. Mr. Bogdan will share how the state and federal budgets impact the nonprofit sector in our state. MPN members will dialogue around what resonates for them, what’s needed to build momentum for federal and state gains, and why the state and federal budgets matter for funders.
Each year Maryland Philanthropy Network partners with Economic Opportunity Funders (EOF) to bring information from their Annual Budget and Tax Briefing to our members. Public budgets are one of the most important policy instruments of our government. They are moral documents that reflect our values and priorities through decisions on how to tax residents and businesses and spend those collective resources. These decisions impact what families have to spend on basic needs and invest in their future, define the size of the government and its role in the national economy, and affect the lives of all Americans. Members are invited to view recordings for all of the sessions from the briefing on the Program Resources page linked in the sidebar.
EOF focuses their day-long annual briefing on why federal and state budget and tax work matters to national, state, and local philanthropy. Our program will hone in on a presentation by noted tax and budget policy expert Sharon Parrott who provided an overview of key elements of this year’s federal budget-related debates and offered insights on the potential impact on struggling families, workers, and communities. Please see the following recap of her presentation or members can view the presentation recording on the Program Resources page. Mr. Orr will provide the Maryland context for this presentation during our discussion.
This program is for Maryland Philanthropy Network members only.
