The Maryland Commission on Public Health: What it is and Ways to Engage

Friday, February 02, 2024, 9:30 - 11:00 AM

Please join Maryland Philanthropy Network’s Health Funders Affinity Group and Dr. Judy Monroe, President and CEO of the CDC Foundation, for an engaging conversation on the support needed for the launch of the Maryland Commission on Public Health. The Commission was newly created in June 2023 by the Maryland General Assembly, inspired by her public health work in Indiana, Health First Indiana.

On behalf of the Maryland Association of County Health Officers (MACHO), Dr. Monroe has offered to share her experience in Indiana and how Maryland’s funders can support the CDC Foundation in its commitment to strengthen Maryland’s public health offices. The CDC Foundation is an independent nonprofit created by Congress to support and extend through public-private partnerships the work of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the public health community.

Dr. Monroe brings a wealth of public health experience. Earlier in her career, she served as the state health commissioner for Indiana (2005–2010) and as deputy director of CDC (2010–2016). At CDC, she oversaw the agency’s critical work and relationship with state, tribal, local and territorial support, working with health departments in these jurisdictions across the nation and territories. In addition, the CDC Foundation supports state and local health departments with workforce and other needs, and has agreements with the Maryland Department of Health and provide them with field staff. Dr. Monroe received her medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and has many colleagues across the state.

This meeting is for Maryland Philanthropy Network members and invited guests only. In person attendance is encouraged and refreshments will be served.
