Practitioner/Funder Conversation: Aligning Math and Literacy Programs with Workforce Development

Practitioner/Funder Conversation: Aligning Math and Literacy Programs with Workforce Development

Wednesday, September 27, 2017, 12:00 - 3:30 PM

Low math and literacy skills disqualify many men and women from training programs that provide occupational skills needed to acquire family sustaining employment. Concerned workforce development providers lament the need to turn applicants away, but often lack the resources to address the educational needs of these jobseekers. Few pathways connect traditional adult education and literacy programs to these jobs programs. However, this is changing as new efforts to strengthen academic bridge programs and align literacy and workforce development are underway.

Please join us for a conversation among literacy programs, training providers and funders. In this conversational session, we will learn about new approaches that connect adult education with industry sector workforce programs. We will be joined by Tanya Terrell, South Baltimore Learning Center; Lyn Farrow, Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake; and Regina Boyce, Strong City Baltimore.  Representatives of workforce training community will also participate in this discussion.

This program is for Maryland Philanthropy Network members and invited guests.
