In recent years a growing number of foundations have fastidiously articulated new program goals to support people of color, people who are LBGTQ, people with low incomes, and others facing barriers to progress. But Jara Dean-Coffey says something huge is missing from all of those equity efforts — a rethinking of the way foundations measure success.
This session offers a panoramic view of policies and practices that are gaining traction in Maryland and leading toward a Zero Waste society. We will hear from Brenda Platt of the Institute for Local Self-Reliance and Mike Ewall of Energy Justice Network, on trends in incineration, composting, recycling, etc. and their work with specific Maryland communities.

There is great interest among grantmakers in demographic data, but no consensus or shared purpose yet on what data should be collected and how it should be used. This preliminary research on demographic data collection serves to create a baseline understanding of where the field is in demographic data collection that covers both the process of data collection and current use of demographic data.
