Maryland Philanthropy Network’s (MPN) School-Centered Neighborhood Investment Initiative (SCNII) funded a research team to conduct an initial analysis that sought to document the 21CSBP’s implementation process, understand the complex relationships among responsible agencies, and explore the implementation and emerging outcomes of the program in three neighborhoods. Their recent report attempts to answer the question what is – and what should be – the role of a “community school?"
All grantmakers are invited to participate in this four-part professional development series taught by our region's experienced practitioners, presented by Maryland Philanthropy Network. Session Three will cover understanding nonprofit financial statements with Jennifer Pedroni, Director at BDO FMA. Participants will learn how to read and understand budgets and financial statements to assess the health of an organization. They will also learn what questions to ask and understand how to interpret the numbers based on a nonprofit organization's age, mission, or funding streams.

“Foundation Giving for Disability: Priorities and Trends”, a rigorous new study commissioned by the Disability & Philanthropy Forum, is the first study of its kind to map philanthropic giving for disability causes. The report goes beyond big-picture dollar figures to point out key imbalances within philanthropy, most notably the minuscule amount of support and action to advance social justice for people with disabilities across the spectrum of funding.
Social movements require bold responses, especially when government policy would directly discriminate against classes of people.
