CEO Sonja Santelises and the Board of School Commissioners for Baltimore City Public Schools has determined that City Schools will become a restorative practices district over the next five years.
In 2008, City Schools adopted a model for school budgeting called “fair student funding” to put as many dollars as possible directly in schools, whose communities know best what their students need. According to City Schools, a number of changes have occurred since then.
The Commission is to review and assess current education financing formulas and accountability measures and how each local school system spends its funds, including the increased State funds provided through the Bridge to Excellence in Public Schools Act. Moreover, the Commission will review the Study on Adequacy of Funding for Education in the State of Maryland, required by the Bridge to Excellence in Public Schools Act. Construction on 21st Century School Buildings is well underway with two completed schools, Fort Worthington Elementary/Middle School and Frederick Elementary School, and seven more currently in process.
