Maryland's Birth through Five Grant - An Opportunity to Engage

Join the Education Affinity Group and Steven Hicks, from MSDE, to learn more about Maryland's Preschool Development Grant, Birth through Five (PDG B-5).  

This Federal grant opportunity will fund states to develop, update, or implement a strategic plan to facilitate collaboration and coordination among early childhood care and education programs in a mixed delivery system to prepare low-income and disadvantaged children to transition into the local educational agency or elementary school. PDG B-5 is designed to support states in coordinating and aligning early childhood care and education programs, resources, and services that already exist, improving program quality; facilitating better partnerships between programs and improving the transition from early childhood education programs into elementary school; increasing program operating and cost efficiencies; expanding parental choices and involvement; ensuring families are linked to the full range of services they need. The proposed grant activities build on the state’s current early childhood infrastructure to maximize parental choice, share best practices, and improve program quality across all settings. While supporting all children in the state, the grant will have a specific focus on promoting equity for children who are vulnerable or underserved, including children from low-income families, with disabilities/developmental delays, who are dual language learners, and who live in rural areas.

This provides a unique opportunity for Maryland Philanthropy Network members to partner with the State to engage stakeholders at regional convenings, conduct a needs assessment, create a strategic plan, and implement innovative and effective projects to support families and children.
