Understanding and Strengthening Baltimore's Fiscal Sponsorship Landscape.
The role and value of strong, high-impact, community-based programs and organizations has been extremely apparent in the last several years. Fiscal sponsors, organizations that lend their 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status to an individual or project, are a necessary partner with many grassroots programs/organizations to enable access to private philanthropic investment and provide cost-effective administrative support.
Picking up on work started in 2020 by Maryland Philanthropy Network, and funded by several of our members, consultant team Jonalyn Denlinger and Erika Seth Davies have been mapping Baltimore’s fiscal sponsorship landscape. Through conversations and interviews with funders, fiscal sponsors, and fiscally sponsored organizations in Baltimore, as well as national players in the fiscal sponsor ecosystem, the project prioritized and centered the needs of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC)-led organizations and social entrepreneurs in assessing the effectiveness of the current nonprofit ecosystem and fiscal sponsor landscape.
Join members of Maryland Philanthropy Network to learn about the findings of the landscape assessment; best practices and gaps in the system; and recommendations for short-term and long-term strategies for addressing the findings. We’ll take time to discuss about how funders might contribute to building an equitable fiscal sponsorship ecosystem.
This program is for Maryland Philanthropy Network members only.
