The Census
On October 3rd, United Philanthropy Forum’s network of philanthropy-serving organizations (PSOs) came together for an annual Philanthropy + Policy Institute to share the political forecast, strategies for engaging with a new federal administration, how best to navigate the regulatory process, the role of philanthropy in preparing for Census 2030, and a special focus on the power of collaboration between state governments and philanthropy through public/private partnerships.
On August 14, 2021, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti. Hundreds have been deeply affected and thousands are injured while others will be left homeless or jobless. It can be tricky to determine how to sift through the information to prioritize philanthropic action. Our colleagues at Hispanics in Philanthropy and the Center for Disaster Philanthropy have both compiled lists of trusted resources to help philanthropy bring attention and aid to affected communities. We encourage you to review these resources and share your generosity by making donations to affected residents of the island.

Michael Bigley is the Director of the Venable Foundation, one of the largest law firm foundations in the country. A key aspect of his work has been to increase public awareness of Venable’s funding opportunities and diversify the grantee docket. As we transition back to more face-to-face activities in the future, Michael looks forward to meeting new MPN colleagues and discovering how philanthropy can address systemic issues present in our communities together.
