Businesses large and small will be critical partners as the world continues to heal from the global pandemic and its economic impacts. The field of corporate philanthropy will shift and adapt to make the most of limited resources of human and financial capital to help communities in their back yard and beyond. The Maryland Aging Innovations Group of Maryland Philanthropy Network (MPN) facilitates its members’ in-depth exploration of issues and impact on targeted community concerns in the field of aging. This group engages MPN members and non-profit and community leaders across multiple sectors working together to improve the quality of life for older adults in Maryland.
This peer group is focused on best practices and emerging opportunities in the field of health, including the social determinants of health and behavioral health. Maryland Philanthropy Network has joined Maryland Nonprofits and our colleagues across Maryland in responding to a call for ideas from the State for how the budget surplus should be allocated. MPN was part of a group of 170 practitioners and partners that came together to create a joint appeal the result of which is this letter to the Governor. Together, we urge the State to dedicate $1 billion of the projected budget surplus for targeted relief, and that $500 million of this commitment should continue in future budgets to assure sustainability and for more equitable disbursement of state resources in partnership with the social purpose sector.

The Baltimore Workforce Funders Collaborative is working with Byte Back, Pass IT On, and the Baltimore Digital Equity Coalition to identify a trainer(s) who will develop and facilitate a trauma-informed care training for up to 15 workforce development nonprofit professionals. The goal of the training will be to increase the capacity of direct service agencies by applying trauma-specific strategies to their normal service deliveries, improving the services provided to clients who have experienced trauma, and advance digital equity.
