Some of you, dear readers, will remember a time, not so long ago, when summers were lazy, hazy and slow. There seemed to be an endless string of days at the beach or the mountains, or Grandma’s house. Not so anymore.
Carroll County is a community on fire — a fire of love and concern and giving, lots of giving. It nearly makes me cry whenever I stop to think about the depth of what goes on this little county, yet so many have no idea.

Four local philanthropies established HoCoRespond.com and set a goal of raising $100,000 in 10 days to support Howard County nonprofits with emergency funds in response to the COVID-19 crisis.

On August 14, 2021, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti. Hundreds have been deeply affected and thousands are injured while others will be left homeless or jobless. It can be tricky to determine how to sift through the information to prioritize philanthropic action. Presentations will new research on reverse mortgage patterns among senior homeowners in Baltimore City, recent national research on the lack of sufficient affordable housing available to a growing share of senior renters, and plans for the launch of federal stimulus aid to prevent mortgage foreclosures in Baltimore City and the State of Maryland.
The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation Thursday announced it committed an additional $6.5 million in emergency grant funding to nonprofits in all of its priority communities as part of the Foundation’s round two response to th
