The Baltimore Community Foundation is proud to announce the launch of the Black Philanthropy Circle. The Black Philanthropy Circle is a nonprofit 501(c)3 donor-advised fund focused on charitable giving to nonprofits that directly support Black people and communities in the Baltimore metropolitan area. Founded by a group of more than 30 Black business and civic leaders, the Black Philanthropy Circle was established to cultivate an inclusive philanthropic community, to build the capacity of Baltimore’s Black nonprofits, and to impact Greater Baltimore’s Black community at large.

A reliable contract with the city can allow a nonprofit to expand, serve more residents, and build the employment base of the city. However, longstanding delays in contracting and payment of city partners leave some nonprofits asking if the barriers to accessing city funding are worth the effort. Maryland Philanthropy Network’s Community Investment Affinity Group is pleased to host Alice Kennedy, Commissioner of Baltimore City’s Department of Housing and Community Development for a conversation about the Department’s work to improve the quality of life for all Baltimore City residents by revitalizing and redeveloping communities and promoting access to quality affordable housing opportunities in safe, livable neighborhoods. We’ll hear the status of DHCD's aspirational and comprehensive Framework for Community Development, various approaches to address residential vacant properties and the availability of quality affordable housing. We’ll also discuss the role that funders could play in addressing the issue of neighborhoods impacted by high levels of vacancy and disinvestment.
Join the Prenatal-to-Five (PN5) Affinity Group to learn about a strategic new partnership with the Maryland State Department of Education that is relevant to the successful implementation of the Blueprint for Maryland's Future. Martha Holleman of Strategic Thinking for Social Change will share a draft scope of work for a child care supply and demand study and Laura Weeldreyer of Maryland Family Network will provide a broader contextual lens, which helps illustrate how the supply and demand study is an integral component of implementing the Blueprint for Maryland's Future.
All funders are welcome to join the Seniors & Housing Collaborative to learn about Chase Brexton and SAGE’s innovative multi-disciplinary health equity programs serving LGBTQ people over 50 and those aging with HIV. With housing as a frame, we’ll hear about their comprehensive primary and behavioral health care services, affordable housing options, and training about how to provide welcoming and affirming care and services.

For February 2020, Baltimore magazine published a special edition celebrating leaders of positive change in Baltimore - Baltimore GameChangers.
In recognition of this focus and the desire to align funding around housing stability, Maryland Philanthropy Network members, many of whom are part of the Basic Human Needs Affinity Group decided to transform into a new group comprised of private and public funders, currently called Funders Together to End Homelessness – Baltimore.
