Members of the State Board of Education will join us to discuss their priorities for the 2016-2017 school year. Specifically, they will discuss Maryland's timeline and tentative policies for implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which impact school accountability and ratings, school improvement, teacher evaluations and student assessment.
Anchor institutions in Baltimore are working to strengthen minority and local purchasing to create jobs and local economic opportunities. Picking up on work started in 2020 by Maryland Philanthropy Network, and funded by several of our members, consultant team Jonalyn Denlinger and Erika Seth Davies have been mapping Baltimore’s fiscal sponsorship landscape. Through conversations and interviews with funders, fiscal sponsors, and fiscally sponsored organizations in Baltimore, as well as national players in the fiscal sponsor ecosystem, the project prioritized and centered the needs of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC)-led organizations and social entrepreneurs in assessing the effectiveness of the current nonprofit ecosystem and fiscal sponsor landscape. Join members of Maryland Philanthropy Network to learn about the findings of the landscape assessment; best practices and gaps in the system; and recommendations for short-term and long-term strategies for addressing the findings. We’ll take time to discuss about how funders might contribute to building an equitable fiscal sponsorship ecosystem.
